R35 GTR GODZILLA CRUIZE 14th & 15th JANUARY 2012

ATS @ PENANG 14th & 15th JANUARY 2012

It was a warm morning in Kuala Lumpur ,Malaysia , as we were about to start a 500km "cruise" from one of the rest stops at the North-South freeway heading North West stretch to the island of PENANG. Almost 20 free running R35 GTR's hailing from ATS AUTOMOBILE stood up and took the spot for what it would be a roll out cruise and plenty of highspeed agendas . Well it was a highspeed dogfight to be exact!
We assembled and waited for the rest of the Godzillas to arrive at this meeting point at the Sungai Buloh R&R

BONE, owner of ATS AUTOMOBILE ,Tuner and Authorised Dealer for COBB TUNING products , giving the DO's & Dont's in regards to the highspeeed convoi. Itineraries and Walkies were given for better communication
Then it was time to fuel up ,tyre pressures etc....
Thanks Esso but sponsored fuel would've been better!
The man responsible for this cruise ,Bone, checks everyones R35, just a basic routine especially the oil level. You definitely Do Not want your VR38TT engine suffer from oil starvation .It will be a big NO and a slap on your own forehead!
While everyone getting ready and geared up....
Some are lurking behind corners and trees discussing about their rides.Perhaps they are contemplating to which of the MAPS to use first!
Bare in mind that most of these R35 Skylines are not virgin stock from the dealers. They have been uprated with COBB TUNING's gadgeteries, Injectors Dynamics, Dodson's clutch basket,AMS intercoolers ,PPG's gearsets,HKS' goodies,Password JDM's,MeisterShaft's,ART's Titanium Exhaust etc the list goes on...so u could assume that these are wolfs in Godzilla's skin!Too bad that the 458's ,LP670's and 997's weren't able to make it this .Perhaps the next agenda they will ....
TIME...
TOO..
ROLL OUT!!
The Northern freeway was polluted with decibels of earth shattering LOUD V6 Twin Turbos whaling through the fastlane....
with excess of above 290kmh..
Now thats what you call a highspeed convoi! Some decided to take a step back (but still way beyond 200kmh!), while others already left their balls behind and gun the throttle away!Apologies for not equipped with Digi Slr cameras and no video of highspeed 'Wangan' to be posted.I know others might i was told....
Not long after the highspeed rumble we refueled these fire breathing guzzlers again and cooled off those transmissions and other oil temps
This time it was Shell as the chosen fuel.To whoever from the marketing side of this respected oil company that read this, please step up!
This particular GTR is sporting a pair of BIG upgrades already and soon there will be a big build up on the engine and the rest so stay tune for the updates.
Next to the GTR, is the E63 645 V8 Bimmer and YES that is our official support car(back sweeper) for the convoi. It gets better because we've got another E63 630 Cabriolet support car with identical colors!Hats off to the 2 generous gentlemans and wives plus families.....
TIME...
ROLL.....
OUT.....
We headed further North to our destination PENANG , the highspeed pursuit outbreaks again
Not long, again we had to stop for a brief moment at a hilly roadside, as we were about to venture through the valley , hills and tunnels to get to the northernside
During the highspeed dogfight,2 white GTRs had a slight lovetap ,

the M7Japan tuned GTR and one of the COBB/ATS tuned GTR
It was a slight mishaps....Luckily they were sharing the same speed...it coud've been worse...p/s:- bro(COBB/ATS tuned GTR) you're a good sport
So we continued ...fullspeed again!
As we nearly reached to the island of PENANG,we stopped at the roadside after the toll for another GTR(mr.ong) from PENANG to greet us .He is actually one of the proud owners of ATS Automobile that came up with the idea to do a cruise to PENANG ,his territory as he knows the nooks and crannys of the island plus the good roads for us to do some exercising with the GTRs!
Everyones muscled in to the toll booth....
M7 GTR rushes with no front licence plate after the small collision...
Everyone waited for mr."ONG" to arrive, which means 'good luck' in chinese FYI.....
GTRs needs lots of cooling off as all of these are STILL roadcars...
Perhaps in a year or two ,one of them might be full fledge track onlys!who knows....
They were discussing the 'close-calls' moments that they encountered....
Back sweepers also needs a bit of resting after keeping up with the big boys...
kudos to this cabriolet owner too , as they cleared those nasty traffics when ever we roll out.Infact, both them are very stylish marshal cars, lots of on lookers and even highway patrols escorted us for a moment assuming that it was some royalty convoi!
After another Godzilla joined the pack ,We happened to meet another ATS GTR customer from this region but unfortunately heading southbound for a business trip,
so he generously took the whole lot for lunch before leaving separate ways....!
It was a malaysian delicacy that the restaurant prepared for us ...
and everyone was hungry after that interesting drive...
After that heavy lunch, finally we crossed the island via bridge.Didn't wanna take the CHANCE of loading up the "Godzillas" into commuter ferry...definitely dont wanna be on a front page of a newspaper for some 'Sunken ferry loaded with GTRs' !...
Instead , a 3 lane 'battle' turnout a better option...!
So once again,.... its the 'Fill her up!' scene.. now at CALTEX which also serve RON97 petrols for better compatibility with the Maps that they uploaded in their GTRs...
As one of the AutoBahn warrior descendant stoodby for everyone to line up ....
....quick carwash and hit the road ,head to the hotel for PARC FERME
Actually it wasn't a quick one....
The island of PENANG is as big as SINGAPORE,where it is divided 2 main scenery ...the city center...
...and the luscious greenery ,
hilly roads plus beaches...
....picture speaks for itself...breathtaking sight....
we reached HardRock Hotel Penang, MALAYSIA ...welcome drinks awaited us...
Everyone anxiously parked and grab their belongings for check in...
HardRock Hotel PENANG reserved a big VIP parking grounds for us in front of the hotel...
After for some relaxation ,plounge in the pool and shower ,we head back to town for dinner....
It was a short drive...
so every lined up and behaved...NOT!
classic American diner was chosen(TGIF) and few of them had a surprise birthday shout outs from the TGIF staffs

The R35 GTRs were treated to a parking space ...right smack in front of Mall premise! A passer-by video caught moments during we took off(thanks Eric)...they were revving their VR engines with prized All Titanium Exhaust systems from various brands that whaled and shook the whole entire island!...
The next day..check out time, we were chased off by this fiercely provoked reptile...a KING COBRA..!!

It was a show put on by this snake charmer for the hotel guests...
and that is not a fake prop!
the hissing sound of an actuator !
we got the message ....so Time..
To..
Rollout...
so we head off to the hill pass road...
where we literally circle the whole island....
And in between we theres a dam with picturesque landscape...
So we stopped and soak in the views...
backdropped by the neverending GTRs onsight...
while the 6 series boys cools off in elegance...
As we strolled back along the winding road...
the front packs already blasted through for some 'touge' action...
how can u not be tempted by the hairpins and blind corners ...
while downshifting with those paddle shifters!
we rejoined with pack of the field...
and reached at a tiny little town....
and headed for some lunch,Thai style! Since Thailand is just 4hours away , its not a surprise that they migrated and set up their business here...
The seafood delicacies was excellent.... it kept on coming and coming!
it was by the beach so the sea breeze adds to the ambience and appetite...
it was again a generous meal and its time to head back to Kuala Lumpur...
500km South Bound....
Seeing the local villagers living their life simple , we basically took a step back from our concrete jungle lives !
so we got back on the bridge...
once again a 3 lane battle erupted! It was separated by 2 groups momentarily and everyone went nuts!wish there was an aerial shot like one of those highspeed pursuit footages....
By the end of the bridge we stopped at a petrol station...
refueled...
and say goodbye to PENANG...
but halfway down south, obviously with highspeed action...one of the GTRs suffered from transmission issue...so we had to wait by the roadside...
As the Tuner diagnose, only 2nd/4th/6th gearing only available...luckily it was drivable at 140kmh all the way!Although this is a common problem ..the GTR's safe mode beats the troublesome of being stranded and having to wait for a flatbed truck...For more info on this , go to www.ATS automobile.blogspot.com
Despite of those few issues , all in was a great fun driving experience and soon we will be having another cruise elsewhere so keep stay tune and be updated...!
